Portugal 9-16-07

Here are our Elders, Flowers and Davis, from SLC and Nevada, with Elders Morton and Baxter of the Carregado Branch. They came over to our house for pancakes last p-day. Elder Morton is from Idaho and Elder Baxter is from Blythe California. He is half Choctaw, Connie. He is very tall and handsome. It is funny to see Elder Morton, 5'3" and Elder Baxter 6'3" or so, together. What makes it funny is that Elder Morton is training Elder Baxter, so they are "father and son." Elder Morton thinks it is hilarious that he could have such a huge son.

These are the Tomar and Abrantes Elders. Dad did audits in their branches this week, and we took them to lunch. L to R: Elder Lloyd from Utah, Elder Cox from Mesa, Elder Hunt from Utah, Elder Loo from Hawaii, via Utah

Elder Davis, Filamena, Renata, and Katiana coming, in the background.

Playing "Don't Eat Pete." It is Katiana's turn. Actually, she and Dad won.

Elder Flowers playing chess with Renata at the branch picnic.

How fun! Did you bring Don't Eat Pete with you or draw it there? That's still one of my kids' favorite games. Are you playing on P-day?

My sister in MN has an elder from Thatcher in her ward. He didn't know you, but he had heard of the Laytons.

He my dad was born in Blythe. He's not Choctaw though...they were the enemy. He's Cherokee and Creek. But it had nothing to do with being from Blythe, his mom and dad were just passing through when they thought it would be a neat place to have a baby. So they did. - Connie

what kids pointed out that it was the inlaws turn for Thanksgiving? What have they been doing for the last 2 Thanksgivings? Or does this mean all the Biggs' are going to Colorado for the "Biggs year" Thanksgiving?

I think they figured that in 2005 they were with us; in 2006 they were with the in-laws; and I would like to know, too, if everyone is going to Daniel's for Thanksgiving 2007. If that has to be our year, then I hope everyone is really going to make it so.

And, Connie, that's good to know. So you are Cherokee/Creek, not Chocktaw. Ok. I'll tell him we are no longer friends, we're enemies...just being related to you makes us unofficially one of the tribe, right?

We have Don't Eat Pete on the computer, Shauna. I just print it off whenever I need it. We take it to family home evenings. Everyone, young and old, alike, enjoy eating M&M's.

So far we're not part of the tribe(s) enough to get a portion of the ill gotten gains gathered from gaming activities but there's always hope. As for Thanksgiving we would love to have any who can make it. The Fall colors are showing up and we had snow last night on the mountain tops so it's very beautiful. I was wrong on the dates though because I said Thanksgiving was the 29th when really it's the 22nd. - Daniel

Christmas sounds good to me too. Would everyone come for it? To me Thanksgiving is better because we actually all get together. Christmas anymore, everyone likes to stay home. I know some of you would prefer to not get together at all.;)But I think we should do something together this year seeing as the parents will be back, and they missed the holidays for two years now. Is everyone on the same winter break? could/would you all do something like that?

I think that getting together sometime during the Christmas season sounds like fun! Mom and Dad, I just think you just need to say this is what we are doing, if you can come great if you can't you'll be missed. If you try to cater to all of 58 of us nothing will ever happen, so lets get started with the Tom and Susan Biggs Family reunions it's about time! :) (But everyone try and come)

*Sorry that was me above (deleted comment) I messed up

Tom & Susan won't be home this Christmas. Are you talking about '08?

Mary, Tyson and Family said...

yes

ok. So, it's my understanding that Thanksgiving 07 is a Biggs Thanksgiving, right? And Daniel has invited everyone to go to Colorado for a true "over the river and through the woods" Thanksgiving. Christmas 07 is for in-laws and in 08, Thanksgiving is for in-laws and Christmas is for us. So, we will meet together sometime during the Christmas break at the cabin. The "Hiatt Riot" (Karl's family) is also meeting then, and Roma Lee suggested we might want to "piggyback" on theirs, but, personally, I want to have it all to ourselves. So, I will find out when theirs is and avoid it. So, plan on sometime during Christmas break in 2008. It's definite.
