What do you think?
After we get home, we have thought about trying to take a family trip together. This will be the perfect summer to go because it will be Josh's last summer before his mission, and that is just the beginning of all the 2nd generation missions. Dallin and Stetson are likely to go before Josh gets home. What would you think about all of us going someplace together this coming summer? Some of the ideas we have considered are Nauvoo, Branson, or even just going up to chill at the cabin in Pine. We want your input. Everyone please comment and tell us your 'druthers.

I personally vote for Big Cedar in Branson but Connie suggests we do the BYU Family camp. She's heard more about it and says she would really like to go.
I like that we are starting to talk about "when you get home!" Anywhere is good with me.
I love that idea. So we are taking the kids? In that case I vote for a place that does babysitting. How about a Disney Cruise? I've heard that it's a blast for adults and of course the kids and even older kids. Joel how much would something like that be?
Dad has always wanted to go to BYU family camp and we will definitely do that someday because it is a perfect place to take kids. But they fill up years in advance, so I think it is too late for summer 08. Disney sounds terrific, but expensive. Let's think about it. Kirtland would also be great. They have developed it just like they have Nauvoo. Lots of options. Everyone have a say, ok?

I know all of you who work with Joel know Branson but those of you who haven't recently been there would be amazed at what's available. Silver Dollar City is bigger with bigger coasters and there are several other parks that have rides and adventures not to mention the shows. Our kids had a blast and like I said before would liked to have stayed longer. I wish we could have too. The beauty of it was the cost was very reasonable. It's not free but it was nice compared to other alternatives. With that said, we'll go wherever is decided. We've talked about the cruise too but with all our kids the cost is a little steep although if that's the call, we'll figure it out...just have to sell a few more eggs.

Thanks for commenting, Rylie. We would like to hear from the grandchildren too. They have a stake in this decision as well. When all is said and done, we will have to consider, cost, feasability with little children, and availability, as well as 'druthers.

What about Florida!! Disney World, Universal studios, several other parks I can't think of and the beach!!!!! But Branson sounds good too. Like everyone else, we will go wherever.

I think Branson would be great. I also like the idea of going to Nauvoo. There is a little bit of generational symmetry in considering Nauvoo/Kirtland since that is what we did right before my mission.
Maybe we could do Branson, and then anyone that wanted a side trip to Nauvoo could go over there.
What about the timing? If we did it during the last week of May, the weather would probably be nice. We could do it around the 4th of July (it will be pretty hot, though). Missouri has a very liberal fireworks policy (and stands that sell everything you can think of), but I imagine the hotel might frown on us doing a show on their property. Maybe we could find another place by the lake to shoot off some fireworks.
We're still in school until first week of June but otherwise anytime is good for us. Either way we would like to be in Omaha on the 4th. I loved Nauvoo when we visited as kids and I've heard it has so much more now than then so that sounds like a great place too. As for Branson, sometime in the next few years I am determined to be there during the Christmas season. Seems like it would be an amazing place with all the Christmas music and celebration going on. - Daniel

Hmmmm. I hadn't even thought about doing something at Christmas. Maybe that is something to consider. The new babies would be a little older and the new mothers a little more recovered.
Those of you with little kids, what are your thoughts on something like Branson? We will do whatever, but for me Branson with the little kids, that I have, may not be worth the cost and trouble of keeping them quiet during a show or them being to small to ride on a ride at silver dollar city.?? Maybe we could reserve the cabin in pine sometime for the whole fam then do Christmas in Branson with the adults.?
Although you with older guys Josh, Allison all the way down to ?? might enjoy Branson I guess depends on the parents and who they would want to take?
Or doing the cabin for Christmas or Thanksgiving then a Florida summer?

I've gotta say, I'm with Rachel! Even though it might not be worth it for the outastaters to come all the way down just to go to the cabin I think we will be able to spend more quality time together (before Josh leaves) Than going somewhere with a lot of sights to see, then we will see the sights more than the family. And I think it would be fun to do it during one of the winter Holidays. And then like Rachel said all the adults can have more quality time together seeing the sights and not having to worry about the little ones, and we can wait until Jen and Eshter are fully recovered because we won't have a time limit. Well that is my expanded version of what Rachel said above :)
The problem with the cabin is there is no cell signal for Josh to text message all his girl friends. It seemed all he could handle to fast from texting while we went to church together...
We have young kids too and when we went last year they all had a great time. What if we did this...What if we spent the days going to silver dollar city, kid friendly shows (Dixie Stampede was our kid's favorite of all), take the teenagers to the coaster park that is geared specifically to them (looks like an awesome place) and shows during the day then after dinner, reserve a conference room at the hotel each night and the adults go out to shows while the older kids watch the younger kids all together with games, movies, etc. That may not be the best plan but I think we could come up with one. Devynne loved your kids Rachel and still talks about them and would be happy to watch them and in the evenings especially if we helped the older kids have a blast during the day.
Seriously though, if we do decide on the cabin then we're in and it will be great and we can all enjoy watching Joshua detox from text in preparation for the mission. - Daniel

The bottom line is that it's up to Joel, Tom & Susan. So just let us know what you decide about where we're going.
We have to tell Joshua every night to stop texting during prayer & scriptures. And it's not a typo - it's 6500 with 2 zeroes after it, not 650. We can't blog his girlfriend's pic; he'll only let us e-mail it to his grandma (Susan, that's you).
Esther - how long are you going to be in FL? We'd like to come - maybe spring break? Picture that scene...Joshua's senior spring break hangin' out w/the fam! Hot stuff!!
You know, the teens would really get bored stiff after one day at the cabin (and isn't this trip about getting together before they start transitioning their lives?).
It does not matter where we go...cabin, Florida, or Branson, we will still have the kids, and the same issues will exist--they will need to be watched. I am with Daniel; let's do something fun, and then plan activities where each age group gets to do things that they like. We need to schedule enough free time to not do anything too.
I think that Branson is close enough that families could drive, or fly (Florida is too far to drive). You Arizonans think that a long road trip is going from Safford to Mesa. It can actually be a really fun experience for a family to take a good two-day road trip. Just plan to stop and see some things along the way (that is Shauna talking...I usually like to just blast through as fast as we can).
As much as I would like to go to Nauvoo, I think that Branson has the right mix of activities for each age group. The resort that Joel referenced even has activities for kids (4-12).

By the way 210 blinking texts per day...I don't think I've ever done 210 of anything in a day. What I thought was cool is that Josh could be fully engaged in our conversations and watching our movies and texting at the same time and not miss a beat. Pretty impressive or something.
Also Nathan we just watched on food network how the whole Omaha Steaks operation works...very interesting. - Daniel
I love the cabin and I love just spending time together, so I vote for cabin as our most afforible and child- proof option. I also believe the Biggs family knows how to make any trip fun, so we would have no problem with entertainment at the cabin...
Then I vote for all of the other ideas because I love it all!

Rebecca and Jeremy, where are you? You are the only ones we haven't heard from yet. Do you have 'druthers?
I think that we could definitely keep ourselves entertained at the cabin and for those of us who are low on funds could work it out...but Branson sounds fun, I too like Rachel just worry about what I would do with a 4 month old or a 9 month old during all the activities, depending on when we decided to go.
Shauna, we are in Florida until May or June. The kids are in until June 1st but I guess it really depends on if and when Shad gets a job. We would love any visitors!
So why does Joel get to decide ;)
I want to be able to talk to and see my neices and nephews and if we are going to and fro we won't get to, even if we set aside some conference room time in a hotel we still have 40 neices and nephews I could never be able to cover the ground in that amount of time. So if we go to Branson all the kids have to take turns driving in my car so I have time to talk to them. That means no text Josh and DeWitt!!! :)
That's one thing I want to, especially before Josh leaves is to be able to sit and talk to him. I know that probably doesn't sound fun to him or to any of the kids, but I want to get to know them better and to talk to my bros and sis's. So if we go to Branson lets figure sometime for just hanging out and talking. Thanks for bringing it up Mary.
What about San Diego? The beach is good for all ages. plus there is Sea World, Konos, Mormon Batallion, and across from that is a mexican food resturant, where they have The Worlds Largest Margarita.;)

I am having anxiety just reading this. I do need some notice for this trip, at least enough time for the Zoloft to kick in and be past all of the side effects. Jeremy will just have to deal with the other side effect--you know what I am talking about! I cannot guarantee that our input would be crutial, bucause I don't think I can do it. Just reading this post and comments already has me in the closet rocking back and forth and sucking my thumb. AHHH! That's my druther.

Congrats on the bun mary! That is the real reason she wanted me to read this. She doesn't understand the reprecusions of making me read this-especially since Jer is on his way to Canada and my kids may not be able to handle comatose (sp) mom having random panic attacks thinking about a BIG trip. Ask Steph about Hawaii in the airport-I am not kidding.
Erika - I love you, soul sista! :-) You brought a laugh to my stress-ridden day. I gave up thumb-sucking in 3rd grade, but I did have to run a few miles on the treadmill to inhibit my murderous intentions. Nathan even offered to buy me some new running shoes....ha ha!! Can we come with you? Or meet in the middle for dinner? Good times!
Tony - super idea! We'll need a lot of margaritas for any trip & Erika - might as well distribute Prozac all around. Can we get a family discount on both?
Joshua's vote is for Branson, if anyone cares since he is the one leaving. & Disney is where dreams come true! So he'd go there, too.
I think Daniel's idea is still the best, and he has kids in all age groups & their family is the biggest, most easy-going & willing. Love you guys! (kiss kiss) Although I don't know if I can handle all the complaints about the humidity in the Midwest again if we go to Branson. I'll just buy earplugs.
And I'm putting the kibosh on anything, anywhere at Christmas. Too much stress & tears...
You all need to remember that while you younger Biggs were off having fun, we older ones had kids & were tied down. So we've been there.
And Joel gets to decide because he has all the money and connections. And Tom & Susan get to decide because they are the matriarch & patriarch. So the rest of us will just go along like we always do! :-) (Someone has to say it...)

In defense of Joel, I have to say that he would go anywhere anyone wants to go. Heck, the cabin sounds great! Honestly, Joel travels so much and has been to so many places, he doesn't have to go anywhere. He just thinks that a lot of places would be fun with families.
I vote for anywhere, as long as they have running water and electricity and a bed. I know, I'm not much of a camper!
I, too, would love to do Aspen Grove. It's ideal -- they have stuff to do for every age -- from newborns to 100 yr olds. Why don't we just put our name on the list and go whenever we get in. We will NEVER have the whole family together -- we'll either have missionaries or new babies so let's just do our best!
For those of you with little kids -- me included. It is hard! We've all had to do the sleepless nights in strange places, cranky kids, tired kids, sick kids, hungry kids, etc... all in the name of family unity! That's the fun of it right????!!!
We'll be where ever is decided.

I just want to be clear that a trip to Nauvoo can't conflict with the Big Show...July 4th... - Daniel
Okay, Daniel...it is a done deal. I have reserved 4 family suites in Nauvoo from June 30th through July 3rd. With our two families, we will only need two of those at most, but since they were available, I went ahead and grabbed four (that is enough beds for 40 people!).
So, you guys can come on Saturday again, stay for church on Sunday, then we can leave Monday morning for Nauvoo. We can stay until Thursday (Friday is the 4th), or come back late Wednesday.
Then on Friday, we will have the big show. How does all of that sound?
Any other takers? We have the rooms. It should be an excellent week--Nauvoo, Winter Quarters, Omaha Zoo, Fireworks Extravaganza...
We are still open to the larger family get together (unless people want to come to Omaha/Nauvoo for that).
We are in!!! We will have to be back by Wednesday latest because we need a full day for incendiary procurement and show prep. As I've said so many times, the NE Biggs fireworks show is like no other. It is so worth the journey I promise and for those who will come we'll have a blast...literally. Oh, and we'll also go to Nauvoo. - Daniel
