Jumpin' Jolly June

June was so full of fun and activities that the blog won't let me put it all on one entry. So, after you read this, go to the next blog for "the rest of the story."
Everyone has had so much going on in June. For one thing, June is our anniversary month. Dad and I celebrated our 47th anniversary in Mexico. It also is the month to honor fathers. We had a double celebration: in Mexico and when we got home. Daniel and Connie and their family took Devynne to Provo to start her career as a BYU student; we went to the Hiatt family reunion; to Mexico with Rebecca and Scott's family; Joel and Steph went to Europe with their family; then Joel had to get right back on the plane as soon as he got home because he and Jeremy had to go to DC for a Music Educators' Convention or something like that.

Oh, and DeWitt was called to be Safford's Seminary President for next year.

Sandwiched between the major events were some other activities that kept our days and evenings full. And of course, Dad and I have our Temple service twice every week.
And we have some great, important people born in June. I do not know why some of the pictures are big and some small. Please forgive my ignorance.

I think I am going to have to call Dad the "Birdman of Safford." We had another bird adventure this month. He looked out his window and saw a male and female quail frantically chirping and flapping in his garden. When he went outside he realized that they were frantic because their babies had fallen in our window well. He went down to rescue them and got ten babies out. He let them go and they jumped right back down in the window well! After he got them again, the parents finally flapped around them and ushered them out the gate. It was quite an exciting morning, saving those baby quails. Dad said, "at one time in my life, I wouldn't have been saving the quail, I would have been shooting them!" I'm glad that's changed.

Dad wanted to have an old fashioned weenie roast, so we fired up the fire pit and had hot dogs and s'mores and swam. It was a good kick-off to summer

We had tickets to see "Le Miz" with Joel and Steph on the 9th of June, but they had gone to Europe by that time, so Esther and Shad gladly went in their place. We saw Shannon (Smith) Brown and Zack and his sister; we also saw the Green family from our ward. It was fun and the play, revitalized, was very good.

Dad got a composter for Fathers' Day. He and Mary put it together...it was quite a hard job and took them hours to do. But he loves it and puts yukky garbage and grass clippings in it, turning it regularly to make rotten soil for growing things.
