AFY kids ROCK!!

Allison, told me what title to write. Allison and Dallin just got back from AFY (adventures for youth at BYUI). Ok here it goes, from a mom's point of view I was nervous, because I only heard from them at the beginning of the week and then nothing. I figured that the camp would call if there were any trouble, but still it would have been nice to hear something. They both flew to Salt Lake City with 4 other kids from Safford. This was Dallin's first time to fly, and he loved it. He loved the whole airplane experience. I'm going to type while Allison tells us what went on.

We got to Rexburg a day early so we got to walk around the campus and see everything, before checking in. One of everyones favorite activities was the white water river rafting down the snake river in Wyomming. The water was freezing, but it was fun anyway. Another fun thing was when we went horse back riding and went on the giant swing. The giant swing is when they put you in a harnes and the group pulls you up really high. When you get up there you have to pull the cable yourself and then you swing down and keep on swinging for a while. Another highlight was the banquet at the end of the week. All of the girls got dressed up in their sunday clothes and waited in their apartments with their counselors, while the boys were all dressed up nice with their counselors. The boys counselors would send them up randomly to the apartments and which ever girl that got sent out would be the one that they would escort to dinner. We had to walk arm in arm across campus where they had a nice dinner with nice place settings and swan folded napkins. The boys were very gentlemanly. After dinner we had a dance. We had devotionals each night and a big testimony meeting at the end.

Now Dallin says: One of the best parts of AFY was to ride on a airplane, that was my first time to fly and it was cool and a wonderful sensaiton. We flew over the grand Canyon, and the clouds looked like a white blanket with rough hills in the back. When we got there we had to wait at the SLC airport for a couple of hours until the shuttle got there at the airport we met someone that I would room with, his name was Ben. He was from Canada. At AFY my favorite part was the horse back riding. We got to saddle them and brush them and pick which one we liked the best and we rode them on a trail, and along the trail I would stop my horse, whose name is Gary, just so I could trot, so I could go faster than when I was walking. There was 2 dances. The 2nd one was the one that we escorted the girl to a formal dinner where we were ate like kings! We were able to talk to the people. Then we went out to the BYUI campus courtyard and took pictures and talked about AFY then we went into the ballroom and we had a dance. It was really fun, because I danced every single dance! Canooeing was really cool too, because it was a 2 man canooe, and me and Dayton got in one and we tied our canoe to another canoe to some kids from Canada and then we tied those canoes to another one that had girls from Utah. Then the boys paddled down the snake river while the girls sat in the middle, that was really fun. Then on Wednesday we went river rafting which was really exciting. It was one of the best parts of AFY. Then throughout the extra time of AFY we would play games like at the ranch where we did rope corses, then we played games. When we got back to SLC we got to see the temple. We saw a bunch of temples and churches along the way from SLC to Rexburg.

I am so glad that the kids got to go to this camp, and think that camps like these are well worth the money.
