We had to go to Lisboa on our last p-day, to recover a package being held ransom by customs, so we invited our missionaries, Elders Sanders and Hafen, to go along. It turned out to be a lot more fun than the last time we went, because Dad was more familiar with Lisboa and because Elder Sanders is a better map reader than Sister Biggs. After we redeemed our package, we ate lunch at the Subway and had dessert at the Ben & Jerry's next door. The Elders loved it! Then, we went sight seeing and saw a tiny fraction of all there is to see in Lisboa. We'll have to go back right away so we can see more of it before it gets too hot to enjoy it. The pictures are of Dad & me on top of the Monument to the Explorers, looking at Lisboa, the Ministerio de Jeronimos with the soccer stadium behind it, that we took from on top of the monument; a perfect example of the juxtaposition of the ancient and modern that you can find all over Portugal. There is also a picture of the Monument, showing some of the sculptures, including Henry the Navigator, Vasco de Gama and others. Then, of course, the Elders and us, enjoying our sub sandwiches. It was really a beautiful day and we had a lot of fun and wanted to share it with you.

Thanks for sharing it with us. I like the weekly letters and pictures but I love when you blog them. I did'nt know they had a Subway there. Does it taste the same? I'm glad you had a good time.

It looks like you guys are having a lot of fun. My first reaction at seeing a subway was suprised too, which I guess is a little silly because its not a totally backwards country.right? The statue looked really neat as well. Love you all- allison

Shadrach, we are in Lisbon in the pictures. It is the capital city of Portugal and it is right in the middle of the country, on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. And yes, Esther, the food at the subway tastes exactly the same as it does in the US. So does McDonald's. One Elder said that after being in Portugal he would never make fun of McDonald's again.
I know all the missionaries must love you! Looks fun...
