Bear in our tree today

Video of a bear that spent the afternoon sleeping in our tree just off the south side of the deck looking toward the river. It was fun to watch and forgive the video quality. We wanted to have it be low res enough to put on youtube. And just in case your wondering...the bear did not breach my chicken coop fortress (although in fairness, I don't think he tried) - Daniel

Wow! What an experience. And how nice that it happened in the summer when the kids are all at home and can remember it. I know, bears hibernate in the winter, but it could have happened in the spring or fall. Anyway, your kids will probably have an amazing list of things to remember, like the ones you guys talk about on your birthday blogs.

So, did the ranger take him away? My youngest brother, Nathan, works for Idaho Fish & Game - his dream job. I guess he'd be the guy to come & rescue situations like this. I think you have the best of both worlds - city living & wildlife right out your back door, literally.

He didn't. Unless they're causing problems they really don't want to move the bears because on the second time having to do that they put the bear down. He just told us to haze him when he came down the tree so we sprayed him with a water hose as soon as he came down and he took off. We have video of that too but you hear the kids in the background being upset with me for doing it. I kept telling them while he's cute and furry now, he's just as deadly especially to little kids so we really don't want him setting up home here. Normally our dogs will keep the bears away but this time the kids had the dogs at the park and when they came back the bear had moved in. By the way, I think my dream job would be to work for fish and game too. - Daniel
