This is a picture of the whole palace complex. It was on the back of a brochure, so it was very small. But I wanted you to see how much more there was than just the front that you see below.
This is the national palace and convent in Mafra. We went there last p-day, took our Elders and met the sisters who are assigned there. The two buildings on either end are the king's palace and the queen's palace, respectively. The center part is the convent and church. It is by far the most elegant, ornate, fabulous castle/church we have seen so far. Amazing! This is just the front. It is a huge square with courtyards, gardens and buildings behind this front part.
When I walked into the library in the Palacio, it actually took my breath away! There is no way you can tell from the picture how amazing it is. Books from floor to ceiling, and down each aisle. AbsoTlutely a book lover's dream...most in Portuguese, however.
This is the chapel in the Convento. It is amazing! Each of those side openings is a separate chapel, like the one below with the missionaries in it. There are 6 or 8 on each side, each, huge and ornate and beautiful. The floor is entirely enlaid with Italian marble and there are sculptures by Italian artists. The king who commissioned it in 1707 was in love with Italian art, obviously.Dad and the Elders in front of the Palacio/Convento.

That sounds so fun! I would've loved that library, too. I took Bethany to our little library here & you would've thought I dragged her to the torture chamber because I wanted to read a magazine that you couldn't check out. She said, "The library is not my sanctuary." But it's mine! Too bad the temple doesn't have libraries; otherwise I'd want to spend more time there.
Just a comment on your letter and need of a car owner, remember when Joseph Smith needed money to build the "Kirtlyn Temple"...he sent Brigham Young on a mission to Toronto Can. to look for Artemus Millet. He was to baptize him and tell him to bring all his money and donate it to the church. Brother Millet said, "What kind of church is that?", then brother Young explained the gospel principles to him and he got baptized.
Also John Tanner who donated his then fortune of 50,000 dollars to the church and left MO, in a borrowed wagon. Before the prophet Joseph died, he laid his right hand on Elder Tanner's shoulder saying, "God bless you, Father Tanner; your children shall never beg bread."
It sounds like you guys are in the same situation with the cars. I'm sure the Lord will provide what you need.

And I just wanted to thank everyone for fasting for Camille yesterday. It means a lot to me to have that family support. I'm saying it on this because I don't have everyone's email and I wanted you all to know how much I love and apprecitate you! She checks in Thurs. morning, we are leaving all the other kids here with Rebecca. She should be at PCH from 1 to 2 nights we may just hang at the condo this weekend to be close, but we'll have to play it by ear.
