Joel & Stephanie threw such a fun 4th of July party that lasted all day. The plan was that we were going to be in a neighborhood parade, eat breakfast at scarf and barf, go to a movie, eat, swim, eat, go to a movie, eat, swim, slip & slide, eat, swim, fireworks, eat and I think a movie. It almost worked out to include all of that.
Jer & Er & fam were the only ones to be in the neighborhood parade because it was in our neighborhood. It was pretty fun riding around on bikes at 8:00 in the morning because it was only 100 degrees. There wasn't anyone to throw candy to because it was too hot, but we still had fun.
Then we tried to meet Joel & Steph and fam at Scarf & Barf, but it was closed, so we met at Coco's. After a chocolate milk spill by Ellie it turned out to be a great breakfast. After breakfast, in order to escape the heat we went to the nearest movie theater and saw the Kit Kitteredge movie. Besides Erika & Steph, Ellie was the only girl, but the boys seemed to enjoy the movie that was all about a little girl and her friends.
After a couple of hour break, Thomas & Jen and fam along with us met back up at Joel & Steph's for dinner where we ate and swam and slipped & slid and shot off a few fireworks in the back yard. We had 8 ice blocks to add to the pool to try and cool it off. The kids really liked that. Crew tried to eat it! They melted pretty fast but it may have cooled the pool down 1/2 a degree. Jer and Joel had a cannon ball contest and Joel won. We did have to get Hayden out of the tree from the HUGE splash!
We also went to Rockin' R Ranch to watch fireworks. It was a really fun day even though Crew and Docker had a hard time when they questioned the legality of shooting off fireworks in their own backyard. Rusty and Buddy really liked them though even when they tried to eat the spinny firey things. Our kids were all pretty good at keeping their distance. The dogs were hilarious though.
Steph made peach cobbler, we took the picture for Shad, since we missed having them this year and we know how much he likes Steph's cobbler.

Looks like lots of fun! We'll see y'all in a couple of weeks. (Pine) Is there anything fun to do there? We forgot... haven't been there in 10 yrs.
That is a sick slip'n slide did you make it or did you find one that big?
Joel, Stetson, and Levi made the slip'n slide for a YM/YW activity. It is alot of fun, but I don't know if our yard will ever be the same again!
Shauna -- sure there are fun things to do in pine -- hike, dig in the dirt, visit with family, sleep, visit with family, eat, collect rocks, visit with family, play baseball or frisbee golf, and visit with family!
I was so glad to see the Mesa kids get together for the holiday. It looks like you had a great time. We missed you all in Omaha, but it is good to know you were together too. And, Shauna, even though the house has changed in Pine...no longer the WWII Japanese internment shack...the people are the same, Pine is the same, the forest is the same. However, it looks like Nancy is planning a circus-type carnival, so there should be some fun stuff going on.

Pine??? It is HUGE! Remember when you lived here? Now double it! It is crazy in the fact that all of the cousins have kids now and a spouse. So there are A LOT of toddlers/babies/kids that you don't even know who they belong to, even if you do know who they belong to!
The amenities are a lot nicer (no porta potties), but steph is right you pretty much eat breakfast (my favorite! I love Deon's greasy eggs!), visit, go into town, eat again, play Frisbee golf, visit, eat treats, eat some more and drink way too much soda. Camping is still close quarters-snoring and babies crying at odd hours is to be expected. But it does look like Nancy is doing a lot of fun stuff so that should be fun. I know my kids are looking forward to it! And oh the blessing of living only 1.5 hours away-its a great day trip.
How fun that looks. and I have to say Erika, your parade looks a little sad with just one float but let me say, what a cute bike float it is!!! You make a mean one man parade. The cobbler looks de-lish and I hope to partake sometime in the future.

There were really about 30 bikes/peeps in the parade. My friend decorated her golf cart and had a raido on in and head it up. In the pic we were lagging behind and everyone was up the street--we are really fast so we have to let everyone go ahead and then we catch up!!:0) Frankly it really wasn't much of a parade, it was more of a glorified group bike ride, but we had fun.
