Deck the Halls

It's been fun to decorate our own house for Christmas instead of an apartment, with decorations we knew we were leaving for someone else. Each old ornament and nativity and reindeer brought back tender memories. It's good to be home.

I have good news, bad news, and great news. The bad news is that I finally had to say "good-bye" to my old-fashioned Christmas bulbs that we have been putting on our house for the last 30 years. The good news is that I actually like the little lights Dad bought...they give the roofline a little bit of a fluffy glow. The great news is that Dad didn't fall and break his neck while putting them up.

Even though it is still daylight, the full moon is shining through the bare tree. I couldn't resist a picture of Joseph and Mary with the full moon shining behind them.

Our house with our new lights. I miss the big bulbs, I admit, but I kind of like the ruffly little ones. Notice the full moon over the house...the perfect stand-in for the Star of Bethlehem for my Presepio (manger scene).

I like the lights but I miss the big old fashion lights too. I have to admit I get nervous just looking at the pictures of Fath on the roof. Doesn't he know how to act his age? (Good for him) :)

I went to help dad put up Christmas lights so that I could be the one to climb the ladder, and be up on the roof, so I stood on the ground and held the lights while dad climbed up and down, up and down, and I kept saying "dad let me do that", and he kept saying "well let me see if this is going to even work and then I'll let you do it"...needless to say he did the whole house all while I held the lights (or the rope. Right Thomas?!!) So then I said "okay dad at least let me be the one to get on the roof and do the peek" and he said "let's see..." and next thing I knew I was holding the ladder on the ground while my almost 70yr old dad was playing on the roof. So I called mom on the cell and said "your husband is impossible!" (See mom specifically called me to help just so I could be the one to climb on the roof.) I told mom to bring her camera outside so we could have proof of dad's cause of death, so we took lots of pics cause it was really funny, but what it all comes down to is, dad is probably more in shape than us all. He is a very avid walker, so he was probably more fit for the job anyway...Go Dad!!!

I remember a number of years when we had one strand of lights just over the porch on the new house in St. Johns. We always said we would put more up, even just to the end of the house but Christmas came and went and we never did. I guess a small strand of lights is better than nothing.

I had Porter and Shadrach on the roof this year doing our lights. The cool thing about Glenwood lights is once they're up, they stay up until March or April when the snow melts. It makes it feel like Christmas throughout ski season but that's fine with me.

By the way, we're getting a lot of snow this week starting tonight and we have a snow cam set up in our backyard looking up to the mountain. Click on www.skiarizado.com and it will take you there.
