ROBERT CHAPPEL AND MARY SHILL
Robert Chappel was born in England in 1758. His parents were William Chapple (circa 1700) and Elizabeth Spire. Robert was a seaman on a ship out of London which docked in Gloucester. Gloucester is a port in southwest England, close to the Welsh border. It is linked by the river Severn, allowing large ships to reach the docks. Somehow, supposedly when his ship was in port, Robert became acquainted with Mary Shill and by her had two natural children, Robert and Ann Shill. He died in 1791.
Mary Shill Lawrence was born in 1761, in Gloucester, England. Her parents were Dan Shill (1726-1793) and Elizabeth Lane (1732-1769). Some interesting facts about Gloucester are that it was the birthplace of Robert Raikes who was the founder of the Sunday School movement, and it is the site of the Gloucester Cathedral which is the burial place of King Edward II and was used for some of the inside scenes in the Harry Potter films. Mary had two natural children, Robert and Ann, by Robert Chappel, a seaman on a ship out of London. After he died, she married Thomas Lawrence, who adopted her two children. Robert Chappel Shill was 3 years old, and Ann Shill was 6 years old. With Lawrence, she had 10 more children! Sometime in the 1900's Mary was sealed to Thomas Lawrence, and her 12 children, including Robert and Ann, were sealed to him as well. Mary died in 1842.

AENEAS LAMB AND ANNA BLACKMAR LAMB
Aeneas or Eneas or Enos Lamb was born in Worcester, Massachussets in 1774. He was just a year old when the American Revolution began, and was a young boy when the Constitution was adopted. His family had been in Massachussets since the early 1600's when his ancestors, Thomas and Elizabeth Lamb came to the colonies as part of the Massachussets Bay Colony. They were the great great grandparents of Aeneas Lamb. I don't know how big the Massachussets Bay Colony was, but surely Thomas and Elizabeth knew of Samuel Richardson, my ancestor, who was also a part of the Massachussets Bay Colony and was mentioned in August as the first of the Richardson clan to come to this country. The parents of Aeneas Lamb were Reverend David Lamb (1745-1823) and Sarah Clark (1746 or 1748-1814). When Aeneas was 18 years old, he went to Woodstock, Connecticut where he met Anna Blackmar. They were married in Dudley, Massachussets on November 1 or November 7, 1792.
Anna Blackmar or Blackmore, was born on February 10, 1775, in the Woodstock township of Connecticut. All the information I found on line and in Family Search showed her birthday as 1775 or 1774. However, if her gravestone is correct, she died when she was 71 years old in January of 1850, so she would have to have been born in 1779. Her parents were Adonijah Blackmar (Blackmore) (1743-1818) and Lyllis Cook (1745 or 1747-1832). Anna and Aeneas were the parents of ten children of which Abel, your ancestor, was the 4th. Anna died on January 29, 1850 at Chataqua, New York.
The dates of our September birthdays, thankfully, are not in question. We know when each of them was born and are very grateful that each and every one is part of our family.

~OUR SEPTEMBER~
Sometimes when I'm doing the blog I wonder how in the world we fit everything in that we do each month. Ultimately, however, I must say that I am so grateful that we have so much to do, that each of you includes us in your activities as much as possible. We would so much rather wear out than rust out, as the old saying goes. What a joy you are to us and how happy we are to see you busy and working together to serve each other and the Lord.
The weather (I don't know why I feel compelled to comment on the weather each month, but I really do) has been fairly hot for September. It has mostly been in the 90's with a few 100+ days at the beginning. I guess we are paying for the few pleasant days we had in July and August. We did have a few September showers, which were wonderful, but it heated up again right away after the rain dried. Then the last week of September we had a wonderful storm that gave us a lot of rain and really made us feel as if fall is actually coming. When I talked to Nathan on Sunday, the 22nd, he was in Baltimore and it was 90 degrees there!
On Sunday, the 1st of September, we were in Gilbert, where we attended church with Jeremy's family. Esther's family came to dinner at Lydia that afternoon. She had been sick with a cold and although she was recovering, she was still coughing...in fact, now, at at the end of September, she is still plagued with an annoying cough.
That evening, Jeremy and Erika's family came over for ice cream sundaes. It was fun for us to entertain kids at our house in Gilbert. It makes it seem more like a home and not just a house to stay in when we are there. Look at the picture of Erika holding Victoria. You can see her in the mirror.
We went home, to Safford, the next day, and were there in time for a Labor Day picnic...a pizza and pool party.
Then we turned right around and went to Gilbert again on the 6th for an eye appointment for Dad. We ate with Joel's family when we got there, and then watched President Nelson's birthday party via live streaming, on Joel's tv. What an amazing man President Nelson is! Definitely one of my heroes.

We had to leave the very next day, because Dad had two live sealings to perform early that afternoon. One was for a woman being sealed to her deceased son and one was for Tim McHugh, who was being sealed to his parents, they to each other and to their children. It was truly a blessed reason to hurry home and it makes me so thankful to be married to a man who is trusted with the sealing power. Again, definitely one of my heroes!
Before we left town, we went by Jeremy's and had handsome Hayden fill us up with gas.
On the drive, between Superior and Globe, we passed a whole bunch of antique cars. I didn't start taking pictures until we were almost past the line of cars, There were so many way older than these. And they were all in such good shape, all polished and shiny.
On the 6th and 7th, Soren and Shad came for the South Eastern Arizona Sportsmen Club youth dove hunt. They joined Carson and Tyson and Thomas and Thomas and Hyrum and DeWitt (who went along to be Hyrum's adult). I think they really enjoyed the skeet shooting practice on Friday evening, but I'm not sure if they enjoyed killing and cleaning real doves.
We had Rebecca, Scott, DeWitt, Polly and Rachel Rose Holt, DeWitt's girlfriend, to dinner on Sunday the 8th, for Rebecca's birthday. She wanted Swiss steak. That's usually what she asks for. That's a yummy choice. Because she was being strict on her diet, Scott and Polly made her a "watermelon cake," complete with fruit flowers. Of course, I loved that dessert. As far as I'm concerned, watermelon is one of the best things about summer.
On the 10th, Ethan's 3rd birthday, we went to his house for birthday cake and ice cream. It wasn't watermelon cake :-} It was very delicious though. It was a "Paw Patrol" cake.
On the 11th, we went to the library to hear Cindy Pearson, give a demonstration on pressure cooked chicken chili soup. It was so so good. Of course, it had lots of butter and sour cream as well as chicken. No wonder it was delicious.
The 15th was the Lisbon Portugal Temple dedication. One of our most favorite missionaries, Steve Sanders, and his wife were able to go and posted a couple of pictures. We are looking forward to going with Mary and Tyson next fall on their Edward Jones trip to Portugal.
Tyson went on an Edward Jones trip to Austria, Germany and Hungary with his mother. They were gone for 10 days and saw the most amazing things. While they were gone, we had Mary's family over for chicken noodle soup and cheese biscuits. Too bad, no butter or sour cream. But it was still really good soup if I do say so myself.
That night, Rachel and Brynlie and Camille and Thomas and Jenn's family came over, joining Mary's family, to make caramel apples. We had the boys pick apples the day before and even though they were very small, they were sweet and delicious...especially covered with caramel.
Dad tried out his new toy...a robot vacuum cleaner. He's really having fun with it. We live in a "smart house" for sure.
On Wednesday, we went to Brianna and Lindsay's play Bugsy Malone. Brianna played Talula, the gun mal for the gangster who ran the local speakeasy, and Lindsay was several characters, from the first person to be shot (with silly string guns) to a flamboyant magician. They were both so good. The picture below is when Talula came into the audience to flirt with someone on the front row...luckily it just happened to be her grandpa and her 3-year-old brother.
On Saturday, the 21st, Jared's 8th birthday, they had a swimming party at our house with his cousins and friends.
Tyson got home from Europe late Saturday night, the 21st, and he showed us and Thomas and Jenn pictures from his amazing trip when they came to visit. This is one of my favorites.
We went to Gilbert on Wednesday, the 25th as the first leg of our Utah temple trip with Thomas. We went early because Ellie invited us to go to a "Grandparents night with Bob Ross" at her Young Women's activity. Dad didn't want to go, so he stayed at Jeremy's with Jeremy and Tayte and Daynen and Jori and Victoria, who came later. Reygan, Ellie, Hayden and I had a great time at mutual, painting with Bob Ross.
The next evening was Ellie's choir concert. They are an amazing choir. The director was a show worth watching, all in herself. It was as if she was physically pulling the music from the students. Ellie looked beautiful and the choir sang beautifully as well.
We went out to eat at Charleston's with Mary and Tyson, who were there to go to the Gilbert Temple, and Joel and Stephanie and Esther and Shad.
The next day we went with Joel and Stephanie to see Out of Liberty, a movie about Joseph and Hyrum Smith, Sidney Rigdon and others who were imprisoned in the Liberty jail. It depicted the horrible conditions under which they suffered for more than 5 months and they how they escaped, with the help of their jailor. I snuck this picture, but everyone got mad at me. I was just trying to save them all from having to pose for yet another picture for the blog. I get a lot of static about that too, so I've been trying, not very successfully, to take fewer pictures.
Then that night we ate at Arriba's with Joel and Stephanie, Esther and Shad, Isabel and Logan, Harrison, Crew, Bridger. Jeremy and Erika were on their way to NYC with their family, and all the other cousins were otherwise occupied. It was such a good evening, visiting and eating with those kids. Here are Harrison, Bridger and Crew, waiting for us.
On Sunday, we went to Esther's ward where Soren and Brody were participating in their Primary Program. We enjoyed it so much. I was particularly touched by the last song, the name of which I don't know, but I loved it and I loved it when Mary's kids sang it at their program...all about the miracles of Jesus, the greatest miracle being His rescue of each of us. Thomas met us at their church and we stayed to attend the 5th Sunday class about the new children and youth programs.
Right after church we started our drive to Utah. It was so good of Thomas to agree to come with us and help us. This is a trip Dad has wanted to take but one he felt like he couldn't manage on his own, even if I took turns driving. Thomas agreed to come along, and he ended up driving the whole time, leaving Dad and me free to sleep or watch the scenery or visit or read or do puzzles on my phone :-) We enjoyed this trip so much and we absolutely could not have done it without him. I really loved having that one-on-one time with Thomas and we appreciate, more than we can say, Jenn's sweet attitude about his going.
We left from Lydia right after Esther's block on Sunday and drove the whole way to St. George...61/2 hours. We skirted around Las Vegas. We had an early breakfast in the Comfort Inn where we stayed, and then...
...we went to a session in the St. George Temple. It was beautiful. It is the only temple open on Monday, so it was absolutely packed! Hardly any room to park or walk. Thomas took us up to the front and then went and found a place to park on the street. The session was full, maybe 100 + people there. There were only 3 brother and 3 sister followers, but they were very efficient and took care of us all quickly.
While Thomas was getting the car, Dad and I took pictures of each other.
After our session, we went back to the hotel and changed, then met Lillian at Costa Vida, a Mexican grill in Cedar City. What a sweet little city it is. Gorgeous, elegant homes. And a beautiful temple of its own.
Lillian drove us around her city and showed us lovely homes and the place where she works as well as the campus of the Southern Utah University. I couldn't believe the elegant building where her doctor's office is. It's the one in the bottom photo. She works for a dermatologist.
Lillian and Kelin have moved into a larger married student apartment and left the barn behind. It is very nice and roomy for a young couple, with 2 bedrooms.
It was hard to say goodbye to her.
Then we drove to Gunnison, which is about a 3 hour drive, and 15 minutes from Manti. We got a little motel in Gunnison. There is absolutely nothing anywhere around Manti. There is a smaller, older motel in Manti but this one was nice except for the tiny shower. I liked being able to park at our door and not have to drag our bags from the parking lot, through the lobby, up the elevator and down the hall.
The Manti Temple. I have never seen such a beautiful temple. I think it is the most beautiful one I have seen yet. It seems a happy mixture of medieval and Victorian in architecture and so elegant and ornate inside. When we went in the annex/entrance, I wasn't so impressed, but once we got into the temple I couldn't stop staring. The only problem was that everything had stairs. The women went upstairs to dress and the men went downstairs. The endowment rooms were progressive, going from the creation room which had a few steps, to the garden room, more steps, the world room, two flights of steps, and the terrestrial room or veil room, more steps. Then down, down, down, to the dressing room to change. Dad wanted to go to the cafeteria so we went down 2 more flights of stairs only to find out it wasn't time for lunch yet. So we climbed back up. Thankfully, Thomas went to get the car and picked us up at the door. I couldn't have walked another step. When I said something to one of the workers about all the stairs, she said, "you could have taken the elevator!" No one ever mentioned that they even had an elevator.
The park and gardens
We went to check it out when we got there, Monday afternoon.
Each endowment room had a mural that completely covered all the walls. There were benches in all the rooms instead of padded seats, but they were not uncomfortable at all. We went to see the old sealing rooms after the session and then a worker took us to see one of the spiral staircases that led up to the sealing room on the top of the tower. Family and friends would climb the staircase, go to the sealing and then come back down via the staircase on the other side. These pictures are so washed out compared to the real thing. The colors are deep and vibrant, and you can't begin to see the many carved decorations everywhere.
Actually, the whole reason we even took this trip was because Dad wanted to see the mural in the temple that was painted by Minerva Teichert. It was breathtaking! She painted the whole history of the world from the crusades, discovery of America, pioneers, to the settling of Manti and the Manti Temple. I got these pictures on line but they didn't transfer well. They are blurry, but you can get an idea of the scope of the paintings.
Tuesday after the session.
After we changed, we started for home. Originally, I thought we would stay somewhere Tuesday night and get to Gilbert on Wednesday, but Thomas wanted to drive all the way. We got to Lydia around 10:30, so it wasn't so bad...at least for Dad and me. I'm guessing Thomas was exhausted. We ate lunch in Richfield, got a treat in somewhere else where we got gas, and had dinner at Little America in Flagstaff. It was a great trip. I'm so glad we did it, but we never could have done it without Thomas's help. He was wonderful.
~NATHAN AND SHAUNA~
Joshua got a job with the city of Indianapolis, Indiana, so he took some last shots of his beloved Omaha. I certainly hope Indianapolis has buildings as beautiful as Omaha's.
This is his apartment in Indianapolis. He just has a few nice pieces of furniture, but plans to add to them as he can afford them. The floors, however, are so beautiful he may not want to cover them up with much furniture. I suggested pictures on the wall, maybe some of his own photographs.
Hannah on a girls' night out with some friends.
Hannah and Seth with some friends (family?) at the Winter Quarters' Temple
Bethany and Jovie have been visiting their family in Omaha.
~JOEL AND STEPHANIE~
Junie in Seattle when they went there to visit Lindsay's mother.
And in their lovely home in Pine.
They have pretty regular wildlife visitors at their place.
Joel and Stephanie bought a Lincoln...my favorite kind of car.
Docker's birthday package, waiting to be packed and sent.
The big announcement from the Stetson and Lindsay family is that Junie is going to have a baby sister and best friend in the spring.
~DANIEL AND CONNIE~
Shannyn and friends on a river trip
Daniel has been promoted Chief Operating Officer (COO) at his hospital, and has moved in to luxurious offices in the Administrative suite. Zoom in on the text below. It is the hospital CEO's announcement of Daniel's promotion.
The family all went out to dinner to celebrate.
And invited Devynne and Brock and their kids to join them, all the way in St. Louis.
As a tour guide for the Glenwood Springs Caverns, Parker got some really good press in tripadvisor.com We need to go and let him be our guide.
Emma plays volleyball for her school...8th grade, I think. And I think they win quite regularly.
Here are some gorgeous engagement photos of an absolutely gorgeous couple. Shadrach and Hannah are getting married in December in the Provo City Center Temple.
Adorable Aila along with some adorable helpers...her mom, Alta, and her Aunt Syrina.
I don't know why kids feel compelled to build legos towers bigger than they are. Alex does it too; Also her Halloween stickers page.
They are making a lot of progress on their barn.
~REBECCA AND SCOTT~
DeWitt was kind enough to go on the youth dove hunt as Hyrum's adult. Then he and his dad went out and shot their own doves while it was still dove season...and a jackrabbit.
At her birthday dinner; and with Rachel and Mary who brought her gifts from them and from Esther; also with Polly and her watermelon cake.
Dallin and Sara and Parley are really enjoying West Virginia.
Their apartment
He's loving being a real architect in a firm.
Parley was making French Toast casserole. He knew just what he needed and just what to do.
So sweet. Sara woke up to find Parley asleep in bed with her.
Harvey started preschool.
So Lucy gets some alone time with her mom. She knows just what to pick out at the store...a car! Harvey has taught her well.
Rebecca went to Washington to spend a couple of weeks with them. Then Allison and Taylor went on a vacation to Mexico, leaving "Grandma Becca" to babysit. Scott came up the last couple of days.
DeWitt came over to let us know that he got an interview with UofA medical school, which is where he really wants to attend. We were so excited for him. They will be lucky to get him.
Rebecca and Polly and Rachel, and I think Tony, have been working out with Steve Valerio. He makes them work hard and gives spiritual as well as getting-in-shape advice. It's all interrelated.
Face timing with Grandma Becca and Papi.
Allison and Taylor's family
Harvey and Lucy are very best friends.
I think this is Polly's tennis team.
~JEREMY AND ERIKA~
Hayden giving us gas
Daynen at a podcast interview for "Filmmakers in the Attic." See explanation below.
Looks so good, Jori!
I can't believe she had the courage to cut off that beautiful hair. I hope she sold it to a wigmaker. Anyway it looks really good, swingy and healthy.
Dinner theater at the Silver Star Theater
When we were in Gilbert, we went to Jeremy and Erika's house to see their renovations. Wow! So impressive. I copied these from Instagram. These are bedside tables that she made from a dressing table she saw at an antique shop or thrift shop and repaired and refinished. Notice them in the bedroom picture below.
Master bedroom...one wall and then the window wall. The look is so elegant and traditional and very original. I love it.
I really enjoy Jori's daily pictures of Victoria's happy waking up each morning. She seems to be such a sweet, good-tempered baby.
Reygan and friends at a concert.
Before we went to paint with Bob Ross, we visited with the kids for a while.
Ellie's choir...just part of it. It's really quite a big choir. She goes to Heritage.
Mom and her two lovely daughters after the concert.
Lovely Ellie got her braces off just before her choir concert.
~RACHEL AND TONY~
On Logan's birthday, September 1st, Isabel posted these pictures. I think he actually got to be home from the fire at Cave Creek for a couple of days.
She's been driving his truck, which I think, is his dad's truck, which he won for being the champion at the George Strait Rodeo and was signed by George Strait. So this is what Isabel has been driving around in.
Here is Logan with his team at the fire. He posted this on 9-11.
Isabel sometimes comes here to do her laundry.
Rachel and I helped Mary decorate Jared's room. It is supposed to be outer space.
On Tony's birthday, the girls had a birthday party for him.
Rachel has also been working out with Steve. It looks like she has some serious skills!
Rylie and Brandon are building a house in Pima right by the Pima Stake Center.
Rylie and Brandon with Brandon's family at Disneyland.
These are sofas at Ashley furniture that Rachel made. I don't exactly know what that means. Maybe that she designed the specifications for? Anyway, I like them.
Isabel's "wedding dress couch." When she was looking for wedding dresses, they found one that was so beautiful...and expensive, so Isabel said, "I would rather spend the money on a couch I can sit on for ten years than a dress I will only wear once!" So here it is. They are moving to a bigger apartment in Pima and will actually have room for it.
~ESTHER AND SHAD~
Soren with Thomas and Hyrum and Tyson at their dove hunt. I don't think they liked cleaning the doves. It wasn't worth it to them.
Soren's Scout troop at a patriotic flag ceremony on September 11th. I think I will miss that part of Scouts. It helped train them to be patriotic.
Homecoming invitation
Having a boyfriend on the varsity football team makes football Marlie's favorite go-to activity.
Soren got braces!
Visiting for a minute with the Brown kids.
~THOMAS AND JENN~
Dove hunt. Thomas and Hyrum participated with Carson and Soren. Each boy had to have an adult with them, so DeWitt agreed to be Hyrum's adult. BTW, Thomas Wyatt shot 6 birds right out of the air! Everyone was impressed.
Mary's family adopted a dog, Shadow, and brought it over to play with the Biggs kids' dogs, Kevin and Bella.
Kirtlyn is really getting to be quite a good artist. This is a picture of her mom dancing with her Grandpa Knudsen at their wedding reception.
Cousin time...on their phones.
Henry and Jenn are taking karate together.
Thomas had to take care of the Salsa Fest before he could go with us to Utah. It's a good thing he had so much talented...not to mention beautiful help.
Selfie at the St. George Temple. What a thrill it was to be there with Thomas. He was so accommodating and willing to go along with whatever we needed, (while laughing at our old people quirks).
It was a special pleasure to get to spend some time with sweet Lillian.
Here he is, carrying my bags and his into the little motel we stayed in near Manti. It was in Gunnison and about the best there was in a 30-minute radius. He was a good sport.
Dad and Thomas with the Manti Temple in the background.
~MARY AND TYSON~
Mary's friend group got together on the 1st to renew their friendships and have lunch. They met at our house as they always used to do when they were in high school. Chelsey Curtis, Jade Bingham and Aubrey Angle.
Jared got a dog for his birthday. He named him Shadow.
Shadow with the Biggs' dogs.
Ethan turned 3 on the 10th. We went to his house for cake and ice cream. It was a Paw Patrol Cake. Very fancy, Mary. Ethan...and Alex...loved it.
Carson dove hunting and practice skeet shooting with cousins, Thomas and Hyrum and Soren. He had been before and so wasn't unpleasantly surprised at what had to be done with the dead birds.
Tyson took his mom on a dream trip through Edward Jones, to Germany, Austria and Hungary. She loved it as you can imagine.
Brianna and Lindsay all dressed up for their parts in Bugsy Malone.
At one point Brianna came into the audience to flirt with Grandpa and Ethan.
No surprise here. All the boys wanted a picture with Talula.
One Sunday, they came to visit and started learning to crochet. We'll see how long they keep it up.
For Jared's birthday on the 21st, he wanted his room decorated, so Mary did it in a space theme. Rachel and I went over to help paint the space wall and Ethan and Alex were a lot of help, of course.
While they were attaching twinkle lights to his bed, the bottom fell out right on top of Mary.
The finished room.
Jared loved it. He wasn't allowed to see it until it was all done.
Jared's birthday swimming party at our house.
For their 16th anniversary, Mary and Tyson visited the Phoenix Temple and the Tucson Temple...
...and a U of A game and a Korean restaurant.
While Mary and Tyson were on their anniversary temple trip, their Grandpa Richins taught Alex and Ethan to drive!
They went to the Rodeo Branch for church on Sunday because the Richins are assigned there to help. They meet in this room, filled with stuffed animals. Brianna even played the piano for church.
Congratulations, Jared! We're excited for you.
~MISSIONARIES~
From Docker in Boston...the Boston Library and Mid Autumn Moon festival
From Albert in California...some missionaries in their apartment got a tent.
From Harrison at the school for special needs kids with one of his favorites. And he has many. He really loves those kids and they love him.
~SOMETHING TO MAKE YOU SMILE~
Read Allison's caption of this picture of Lucy.
Good job, Reygan, making a list for Daynen. I think this was a few years ago. It's Jori's job now.
Getting beautiful all together...as if they are not already gorgeous!
I love that Allison still uses the afghan I made for her bridal shower.
It warms my heart to see that Marlie saved her cards.
You've heard the old saying "It's 5: 0'clock somewhere," well Harvey and Lucy have the right idea. What's a plain old cake without candles? It's someone's birthday somewhere.
Amazing!
I didn't even realize this until Mary brought it to my attention at 9:19 on 9-19-19.
Victoria can't decide whose finger tastes best...Reygan's? Ellie's?
"I'm Grandpa!" says Ethan.
And finally, it made me smile and remember all of you and your "princess pretending." Aila climbed up on the rock, posed herself and said, "Now I'm a beautiful mermaid."
